Part of the Daniel Boulud empire, Cafe Boulud NYC was one my last minute dining destinations while I was in New York back in December 2010. A last minute choice, yes, but a bad decision, it was not. In fact, this meal was one of the more memorable during my short trip to New York.
Do read my other New York entries: (1) Eleven Madison Park (2) Momofuku Noodle Bar (3) Le Bernardin (4) Michael’s (5) Marea
The meal started with a Fried Risotto Ball. Yes, you heard me right – a fried risotto ball. It was great with the rice being cooked till al dente. To be honest, I could have popped more than 10 of these just in 1 sitting.
Beet Cured Scottish Salmon
Roasted Baby Beets, Horseradish, Orange Peel
US$19
;
Porcini Mushroom Risotto
Madeira Infused Butter, Aged Parmesan
Appetizer US$21 / Main Course US$33
I absolutely loved the mushroom risotto. It was cooked perfectly al-dente and the flavours of the mushroom was infused fully throughout the rice.
Boeuf A La Bordelaise
Braised Short Rib, Seared Entrecote, Parsnip Puree, Sauce Bordelaise
US$42
The braised short rib was awesome, to say the least. It was sublime. It literally tore apart with the softest of nudges.
The seared entrecote/beef was splendid – cooked pink in the middle.
Pear & Spiced Wine Vacherin
Chantilly, Crushed Meringue, Poached Pears
US$14
I requested for a light tasting dessert and this came highly recommended by the wait staff. I can’t say that I was completely blown away by it, but it wasn’t bad by any accounts. What I did like was the poached pear!

Disclaimer: I had my meal here in December 2010 – Menus/prices etc. might have changed. But by most accounts (i.e. Google) things don’t seem to have changed that much.

Hi! I’m thinking of trying this when I head to NYC. May I ask if you remember what the dress code is like? the reservation page says ‘business casual’ but do you remember to what extent? like are long sleeve shirts and trousers complusory for guys or will polo tee and jeans (not very ruggard looking kind) suffice, for men?
